I'll have to give it some thought about which books I'll put on the lists and what the categories will be since it will have to be different from the 101010
Challenge also starting on Jan. 1, 2010. Like everyone else here in LT I have a ton of books I've always meant to get around to reading but never had the time or opportunity to do so before now. I think I'm going to look at other people's lists here and see what kind of categories they have come up with. So it can be as many or as few books as we want to read? Right now I don't even know how many books I'll put down as a goal for this group.

If I start out with a real low number and meet that easy enough I can always up the number to a much higher one a little bit later on.

If it's alright with everyone else here what I might just do is to reuse the same lists for this group that I had for the Paranormal 999 Challenge since I failed to finish reading any of my categories from the lists of those groups. The best group I did was with the Wizards. I just started reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I might also come up with some new group ideas too like something for Zombies.

However I might have to make some changes on these groups since I have already perviously read some of the books on the list like IT and The Tommyknockers for example.

Kat32 I looked at the list of books you've posted in your Library and I think I can use some of them for my Challenge in my groups too. I'll have to look for them the next time I go into my local Used Book Store
where I go from time to time and they also buy books from you too. Though the most I've ever gotten from them in the past by selling boxes of books is $8.00. They sell much more than just books. They sell a little bit of everything. Comic books, VHS, DVD movies, audio cassettes, t-shirts with famous literary writers like Jane Austen promoting you to read books,
coffe mugs with their name and logo on it, Harry Potter Book marks, video games of course they'll also rent you movies too.

I don't know a whole lot about Elves other than Tolkien's version in LoTR of course and maybe some Comic Books I might own too. Right now I don't off the top of my head I don't know any books about Elves. I might even be able to find a couple books about Elves at home other than Tolkien's of course. Does anyone here have any good suggestions?

Lisa Shearin has a set of fantasy stories featuring elves, the first is Magic Lost, Trouble Found. I found it enjoyable, not the best thing I've ever read but not the worst by far.

I'll have to think on it and if I think of more I'll pop back. I know lots of books with fairies and sometimes elves are included in with the rest of the fae, but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate or what you're looking for.

I looked in my catalog and am not sure how I forgot this, Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer also feature elves. They're a couple of my favorite fantasy stories.

Additionally, Finder by Emma Bull has elves too.

The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany, an early master of fantasy, would be a good place to start.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone I'll have to look into them. I was also thinking of looking into Tolkien's The History of Middle-Earth series too. What do you all think about that? I own several volumes in the 12 volume series. I know his son Christopher picked up and continued them after his father died in 1973.

You would think that my habit of reading anywhere between 3-8 or even more books at one time would help me to easily reach my goal of 50, 75 or even more books read in a year and also help me to finish most of my reading challenges here in LT like the Paranormal 999 Challenge. Unfortunately it's never worked out that way for me. I guess if I'm gonna make this reading habit of mine to start paying off for me I have to read faster and dedicate more of my free time to just reading.

Who knows 2010 may turn out to be a great year for me to evntually meet and far exceed my personal high of 35 books read in a year set in 2008 and also be able to finish some book challenges too like the one in this group. What usually happens to me when I am in the middle of reading anywhere between 3-8 or more books at a time is that I'll eventually wind up finishing some of the books however for the most part the other books I fail to finish reading.

For part of my category on Elves I think I'll read some of the books I have by Margaret Weiss and also the books she wrote with Tracy Hickman too. Looking through them recently I did notice that I own volumes 1 & 2 but missing volume three so I'll have to look into getting the books I need in order to have the entire trilogy as well as any series they have written together like Darksword, The Death Gate Cycle or Sovereign Stone.

Those are some very creative choices. Besides this challenge I'm also doing the 1010 catagory challenge and thought you might like to see what I came up with for Catagory names for my challenge, Here is my List of catagories:

Thanks Kat32. I think you also have some very creative names too and Good Luck with all of your challenges too. Wouldn't Demons be able to smell fear from someone? Just liike wild animals can smell fear coming from a person. I would think they're the reason behind someone's suffering. I know there's all kinds of different demons. The personal kinds of demons one has to fight like phobias, drug addiction, alcoholism, demons from one's own past or childhood, if someone is addicted to horse racing, cigarettes or gambling,traumas they may have suffered years ago, of course there is also demons such as the Devil who used to get blamed for everything Evil in the world and everything bad that happened to people. At least that's what the Bible said and the Priests always used to Preach to their congregations.

Of course there's also many types of suffering too like migraine headaches, terminal diseases, the loss of a loved one, suffering financial losses, rejection,
torture, injustice of someone being wrongly accused and put in jail for a crime they never committed only to have their innoncence proven tears later, poverty, hunger sexism,racism, loss of a job or house,the intentional abuse of animals, suffering the loss of a dearly beloved pet someone had for years who was always there for that person, suffering in war, violence in the streets,drugs,abortion, etc. So Kat32 is that the kind of suffering you were talking about in your challenge, Does Anyone Else Smell Suffer? I'm just trying to understand the title to your category.

It has nothing to do with personal suffering at all, but about those creatures that come from hell, basicly demons the kind with horns and such thus the name Does Anyone else smell sulfur because demons are often linked with the smell of sulfur.

I just noticed that I'm duplicating myself with some books here that I've already listed in my 1010 Category Challenge and was wondering if this is permissible or should I try to change the book titles that I found are duplicated? As it stands right now it means I can count the same books twice in two different groups this was done entirely quite by accident. I had no idea at the time I had even duplicated myself in two different 2010 Reading Challenges. I was just curious to find out what everyone else here thinks I should do.

I actively try to duplicate books between challenges because I have a hard enough time trying to get through them as it is. I pleases me greatly when I can cross one book off two different challenges :-)

Of course, that's just me.

Thanks a lot Jenson_AKA_DL. I just wanted to make sure whether or not it was OK to do this even though it wasn't deliberate. Maybe in the long run it will actually be to my advantage to keep them on both 2010 Reading Challenges. So I guess I'll leave them on both lists. I agree with your thinking about how nice it would be to cross books off of two different lists at the same time. Though in my case it's only going to amount to no more than 4 or 5 books on both lists that are duplicates. But maybe those 4 or 5 books will be the difference on whether or not I can actually finish any challenges in 2010. We'll have to wait and see how everything works out for me in 2010.
